When you get a house painter in, you want to know who’s actually turning up. With me it’s simple: I look at the rooms, I price them, and I paint them, so the person you talk colours with on the first visit is the one holding the brush.
Most of a good interior repaint happens before any colour goes on. I fill and sand the walls, feather out old patching, seal the stains so they don’t ghost back through, and rub the trim down so the new coat has something to hold onto. It’s where the days go, and it’s the difference between a room that still looks sharp in five years and one that doesn’t.
Ceilings, walls, skirting, architraves, doors, and window sashes and frames. Feature walls and painted arches come up more often than you’d expect, and they’re some of my favourite jobs. Bathrooms and laundries get a moisture-resistant product so the steam doesn’t undo the work. And if all you want is the ceilings and trim freshened up before the house goes on the market, that’s a job in its own right and I’ll price it that way.
Repainting the inside of your home doesn’t mean moving out or putting anything into storage. I work through a room or two at a time, shift the furniture into the middle and cover it, mask the floors and fittings, and put the room back together before starting the next one. If it’s a rental sitting empty between tenants, I’ll do the whole place in one run instead and get it back on the market faster.
If you already know what you want, bring the chips along when I come out. If you don’t, we’ll work it out on site, which beats staring at a colour card at the kitchen table. For a whole-house scheme I can arrange a proper consultation through Resene or Dulux. Sheen matters as much as the colour does: flat on ceilings so it doesn’t pick up every roller mark, low sheen on walls, and something harder on doors and trim so the fingerprints wipe straight off.

Furniture moved and covered first, then filling, sanding, spot-priming and sealing. It takes the longest and matters the most.
Two full coats, cut in by hand, with doors and trim sprayed where that gives a better finish. I clean up, then we walk through it together.
It comes down to how many rooms there are, how high the ceilings go, what state the walls are in, and how much trim and joinery I'll be cutting around. I won't guess at it over the phone. I'll come and look properly, then send a fixed written price with each room listed on its own, so you can decide what to do now and what can wait.
A couple of rooms is usually a few days. A full house interior is more like two to three weeks, depending on how much prep it needs and how much trim there is. You'll get a realistic timeframe with the quote rather than a best case that slips.
Usually, yes. Patching, filling and small skim repairs are part of the prep on every job I do. One ceiling I did recently was fifteen metres by five and had been patched badly by someone else years before. It took a while, but it came back to a smooth finish with no brush strokes showing anywhere. Full gib stopping on brand new walls is the one thing I leave to the stoppers.
Dulux, Resene or Aalto, depending on what the room actually needs. I hold trade accounts with all three so I'm not tied to one brand. A ceiling, a steamy bathroom and a hallway that gets knocked about every day all want different products, and whichever I've picked will be named on your quote.
